I get a busy signal when dialing into an access number.
While fairfieldi.com has a very low user-to-modem ratio (uncrowded network!) of less than 8 users per modem, there may be times when your access number is busy. Here are two suggestions: Try calling again. Often, during peak usage times, it takes a few redials to connect. Check to see if your area has more than one access number. Have this number readily accessible so that you can just enter it (without having to look it up online) in your dial settings. It’s a good idea to drop an email to techsupport@fairfieldi.com if you are having trouble connecting to your local dial-up number. Please include the number you are using. The more aware you make us of a problem, the more we can do to fix it.

Why is it taking so long for pages to load?
Slow-loading pages could be the result of a noisy telephone line which often occurs in places where there are many telephone extensions that are not built for Internet connections (hotels). It is also more likely to occur if you have less than a 56Kbps modem. Another way to soup up your connections is to add memory to your computer.

Why does my connection sometimes disconnect or stop working?
Sometimes people connect and are experiencing great connection speeds and then someone calls in on the line. If this caller leaves a message in voicemail, this will slow your machine by adding line noise and interfering with your connection, and possibly cause a hang-up. You can make some changes to your dial-in settings so that new calls do not interrupt your session. Also, if someone picks up another extension of your telephone line, this may also cause your modem to disconnect.

Remember, unlimited service does not mean dedicated access. As our Terms of Service state, 20 minutes of inactivity can result in an automatic disconnect.

Does fairfieldi.com recommend any certain kind of modem?
fairfieldi.com does not endorse any particular manufacturers. However, our network is engineered to operate at optimal levels with modems that use the V.90 specification.

How can I tell if my modem is working correctly?
If you’re experiencing connection woes, such as no answer when you dial into the network or erratic and slow connections, you might want to test your modem’s performance. There’s no need to take your computer into a shop – simply run a diagnostic test online at : http://www.modemhelp.com. Along with the tests, this site gives you a lot of handy modem know-how in the form of configuration instructions, links, and tutorials.

Why do I get a spam error message when I’m trying to send email messages?
In order to reduce spamming, fairfieldi limits the number of email recipients to 15. If you need to send one message to more people than 15, please send it more than once to different recepients.

Why does it take so long to check my email through the fairfieldi.com Web site?
Checking your mail from the web-mail interface takes longer because it is web-based and is dependent on your dial-up connection speed. Fairfieldi.com’s WebMail is a convenient feature because you can login and check your email from any Internet connection anywhere in the world. For everyday sending and receiving of email, we suggest using an external email client.
